Lars Ulrich (born December 26, 1963) is the drummer and co-founder of Metallica. He was born in Gentofte, Denmark to a middle-class family. A tennis prodigy in his youth, Ulrich moved to Los Angeles, California at age seventeen to pursue his training, but instead of playing tennis, he ended up as a drummer. After publishing an advertisement in a local Los Angeles newspaper called The Recycler, he met James Hetfield and formed Metallica.

Jason Newsted (born March 4, 1963 in Battle Creek, Michigan) is an American bassist best known as the former bassist of Metallica. Currently he is a member of Voivod and Rock Star Supernova. Newsted also goes by the pseudonym Jasonic, which serves as both his alias in Voivod and the name of his music publishing company. He is also founder of the Chophouse Records studio and label based in California.

Dave Mustaine (born September 13, 1961 in La Mesa, California USA) is the lead/rhythm guitarist, songwriter, and singer for the thrash metal band Megadeth. Mustaine grew up in various Southern California suburbs. He currently resides in Fallbrook, California. As the central figure of Megadeth and a former Metallica lead guitarist and co-songwriter, he is one of a handful of people considered to have pioneered thrash metal and speed metal.

Clifford Lee Burton (February 10, 1962 – September 27, 1986) was a bass guitarist best known for his work with the American heavy metal band Metallica from 1982 until 1986. As a bassist he was known for his unique style, which made heavy use of distortion and effects (several of which are usually associated with non-bass guitars), best exemplified on his signature piece, "(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth".

Ron McGovney (born November 2, 1962 [1], Los Angeles, California) is an American musician most notable for being Metallica's first bass player when they formed in the early 1980s. He was replaced by Cliff Burton. After leaving from Metallica, McGovney was disillusioned with music and sold most of his equipment. However, several years later, he was enticed into another band called Phantasm, which he help contribute to the band's only album. He then left Phantasm after a couple of years.
